Announcement By TOLES

In January 2017 there will be some important changes to certain sections of the TOLES Advanced exam. Three sections of the exam are going to change and the rest of it will remain as it is. We are changing these three sections of the exam for several reasons:

The first is that we decided the exam should be reviewed as it is now 16 years old. We felt it was time to go back to the commercial law firms in London who advised us in 2000 and ask for advice and guidance once again. Our most important objective is preparing TOLES students for the workplace and giving them an advantage in the job market. To do this we have to move with the times with regard to employer’s demands;
The second is that some students were finding certain sections of the exam too daunting and were not completing those sections, which was having a negative result on their final grade. We needed to find a way of testing the same skills and knowledge in a way that students found more accessible and user-friendly. This should improve student confidence and ultimately improve the final exam result for each exam candidate;
Last but not least, we have listened to very valuable feedback from teachers of TOLES around the world and we have tried to make teaching TOLES Advanced a better experience in that preparation for classes should now be simplified and tasks better defined. We hope that it is now much clearer to show students precisely what is required. We also acknowledge that it is better for teachers if students who work hard feel they can achieve the higher grades.
The result of our review is the revised TOLES Advanced exam for 2017. We very much hope that you and your students will welcome the changes we have made.

The old version of Advanced exam will not be available from January 2017.

TOLES Foundation and TOLES Higher will not change in any way.
